How to destroy your employee’s morale in an instant!

Some things employers should worry about a little more is the happiness of their employees. Making sure your employees maintain a certain degree of happiness in the workplace has many benefits! Increase productivity, increase efficiency and perhaps less damaged merchandise cause by natural accidents. When your employees are happy it’s proven that they in fact work harder than normal. The morale of the company is up, the customers will get better service and things simply just run more smoothly.

 

Recently I experienced the opposite of this trend. My long time employee dropped a huge bomb on our work force last week. It was announced and finalized that we would no longer be allowed of normal 15 minutes am and pm breaks! We are to work an 9, nine hours shift with one, one hours lunch break, unpaid. This is a long day if you ask me! I mean sitting in front of your Personal Computer for 9 hours a day with only one break is personal considered ridiculous and stupid!

 

Sometimes I literally feel like I’m going to puke or pass out! It’s too long of a day to not get these 15 minute breaks! I’m not too sure why after 25 years of having these breaks they were all of a sudden taken from us but as I write this article they are no longer. It’s now 12:15 and I have been working since 8:00am without a break. Obviously as you can tell I’m breaking the rules and having a personal blog break! Another major move the company I work for has taken is to minimize the usage of the internet to its employees. The company has purchased a license of Web Sense which monitors all internet activity in the building based on an IP system. So my personal computer or other co- worker would be easily identified simply by the IP and name. So yes when I post this the activity will be monitored.

 

25 years this company has never had issues with these simply rules but now it’s like Adolf Hitler walked in the office and said kill all people except blondes or something!

 

I thought to myself, self, what would make a company take such drastic measures in order to change something in a company that’s been consistent for over 25 years. I know the American Economy is in a slump; sales are down but why pick on the employees!

 

Does the company seriously think this will get the employees the drive and motivation to work harder LOL yeah rights! If anything the employees are pissed off now, especially the smokers which we have about 20 of! These guys and girls aren’t going to work harder and in tuff situations will find their selves stressed out and not even wanting to work for the company no longer.

    Where I live there are labour laws that say if you work an 8 hour shift you must be given 2 15 minute paid breaks and an hour lunch break unpaid.

    I would check your labour laws.
